Digital Carbon Footprint : Must Know, Must Be Aware


Data transfer, use and production of digital devices causes more CO₂ emissions than one might expect. These emissions are summarised under the terms “digital CO₂ footprint” or “digital carbon footprint”.

Sending a SMS text is apparently the most environmentally friendly way of conversing. Only emit 0.014g of CO2. But sending a single Selfie on WhatsApp can emit 5g of CO2. Which is more than a regular email. 


𝗔 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗘𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 

A study done by OVO energy in 2019 found that if every adult in UK sent one less thank you email a day it would save nearly 16,500 tonnes of CO2 a year.
